These days when budgets are extra tight, it is important to pay just as much attention to where your money is going as to what you are buying. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it is more important than ever to support the cause with a purchase of a product where a portion of the proceeds are donated. With a huge array of Ebates merchants participating in Breast Cancer Awareness month, it's easy to support the cause, get something you actually need, and earn some cash back too. Bloomingdale's is supporting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation by offering easy donation on their site, or you can enter their beauty sweepstakes to win a beauty bag (they will donate $1 for each entry). You can also shop their Pink Boutique, where all products donate proceeds to a participating foundation and, of course, you will get 3.0% Cash Back from Ebates.

Breast Cancer Awareness Leather Jacket at Bloomingdale's
I really can't ever say no to a leather jacket, much less one that donates a portion of the proceeds to the cause. This Levis Capital E Leather Jacket is the perfect topper to all my Fall ensembles. Plus, there is an option of a burnished red color which is less harsh than black and different than anything I have. At a reasonable $298, I know that even if I am making an investment, I am also stretching my dollar for a good cause.

Shop Breast Cancer Awareness products from more of your favorite merchants like Sephora, drugstore.com, Nordstrom, Macys, Ann Taylor, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Shopbop and many more! Click here to shop all of our 1,200+ merchants!

Target CouponsI don't remember exactly when I fell in love with Target. I think that the process was pretty swift or there was some sort of magical dust in the air. I can't put a finger on it, but suffice it to say, I've become a dyed-in-the-wool, Tar-jay loving, blogging maniac about all things Target for almost two years now. What do you want to know? Great tips on getting the most out of shopping at Target? I can help! I am a Targeteer!

To start with, go to Target.com and sign up for their email. Then chant repeatedly that you will NOT click links in their email before you log into Ebates and route your shopping trip through the Ebates site once logged in so you get credit for shopping at Target. Target emails are your "cheat sheet" to getting deals. Just search for the item after you've gone to Target via Ebates to access the deal on the item you have an interest in purchasing. Is your brain asking you why I am telling you to do it this way? It ensures that you will get your cash back from Ebates. If you click on links from just going to the Target site first, you probably will not get credit for your purchase. This is because of the tracking that takes place so that Ebates can see all the info it takes to give you credit.

Next, go to the site map for Target. It will reveal many pages that you may not have known that were there that are also money savers. There is a page for rebates on products. That is updated as merchandise rotates on and off the list. There is a link for recycling your old cell phone where you can get credit via a Target Gift Certificate.

Now take a moment and check out their clearance pages. This is where you get the greatest savings. If you will shop off-season, you'll rack up savings as high as 90%. You will have to visit the site very often as the discounts deepen to snag your deal. How about Target's Daily Deals? There are usually about five items listed. Another fairly new category is the Red Hot Shop! You'll find a dozen or so items listed there that are very interesting, usually quite affordable, and often a little quirky.

Do you have a Target RedCard? I'm not advocating debt but if you can manage your credit, this can be a sweet deal. We purchase everything on our RedCard and after $1000 in purchases you get a 10% discount card good for one day. I usually use my 10% card for a shop where I can maximize my savings and pile up clearance prices, sale prices, shopping codes or store coupons and make my own sale.

Now that you know the basics of how to grab a really good deal, here are a few frugal opportunities that caught my eye this week... Thanksgiving Turkey is sure to be a hit when you use this Stainless Steel Roasting Set! Snag this deal now for $27.99 (reg $39.99). This is a smart purchase after saving 30% and it will last for many years to come. It includes two large fork roast/turkey lifters, a jumbo roast rack, baster, reusable turkey timer and marinade injector. Baster is stainless steel with a silicone bulb and comes with needle and brush; baster holds 1.5 oz; injector holds 7 tsp.

Serve up a scrumptious pumpkin pie in the Cornucopia Pumpkin Pie Plate for $8.99! You'll be happy you have this item to place on your Turkey Day dinner table after saving 25%. If you are the guest at someone else's table, take a pie in this pie plate as a hostess gift. This item is a 10 " hand-painted stoneware and will make all of your Pilgrims smile when they learn it is also dishwasher safe.

Snuggle up under this Kingsize Sleepwarmer Automatic Blanket. Save not only 50% on this blanket at $59.98 (reg. $119.99), but also on your winter heating bills too. It is currently available in a variety of colors (king size only) and is 100% polyester and machine washable.

Every girl needs a little black dress! Check out this Merona Collection Knit Wrap Dress! It is available in XS - XXL at ONLY $14.99 (reg $29.99). You'll save 50% on this dress and you'll get tons of opportunities to wear it to all sorts of holiday parties. Just change your jewelry, shoes and dress up or down with a wrap or a jacket.

Interested in getting more deals in the store? Surf on over to AttentionTargetShoppers.com and follow along as I lead you from one deal to the next, Be sure to sign up for the email feed. I also publish a complete ad match-up to coupons item-by-item every Sunday.

Disclaimer: I am not now nor have I ever been a Target employee. I am simply a Target loving blogger who loves to share her deals. I also do NOT have any "insider" info from any Target employee past or present. I find my own deals or they are submitted by others who love shopping at Target. Follow me to Target. I will save you lots of money.

I can always count on Ebates special sales events to introduce me to a merchant that may have otherwise passed me by. The prospect of increased cash back and deals always makes me take an extra look at a merchant and see what they have. A perfect example of this is White House Black Market, a participant of the Ebates Columbus Day Sale, who have doubled to 4.0% Cash Back for the event. They carry chic clothing and accessories for women mostly in the namesake hues and have everything from work separates to affordable yet totally stylish shoes, jewelry, cashmere scarves, and more. They even sell double-sided tape for all those moments when you need to prevent a 'wardrobe malfunction'.

White House Black Market Contour Dress
One item that totally stood out was this Contoured Tank Dress for $178. It is everything a little black dress should be: timeless, versatile, and totally flattering. The go-anywhere style is perfect for someone on a budget, as it can be worn just as easily for work under a blazer as for a cocktail party with heels and glitzy jewels a la Michelle Obama's Date night LBD (the perfect inspiration). And get $20 off your White House Black Market order of $80 or more with code 8936 at checkout.

Did you know that you can now have a Vera Bradley wedding? There are now custom bridesmaid dresses & tableware in Vera Bradley fabrics! The only reason that I know this is because I am a Vera Bradley addict. My obsession began after the birth of my first child. I had purchased my first Vera Bradley Diaper Bag and I fell in love with the fabric design & the structure of the bag (it has tons of pockets to hold everything). Since then, I have purchased at least two a year.

Vera Bradley toteThe prints are so eye-catching and make such a fashion statement that I can't help myself. Each week Vera Bradley seems to have a new bag on sale. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, Vera Bradley has the Pinwheel Pink & Daisy Daisy bags on sale for 40% off!! Between the sale price & getting 3.0% Cash Back through Ebates, you can really get a steal of a deal!

Here at Ebates we're in the midst of our Cash Back Bonanza, where we're trying to remind you all of new or different ways to use Ebates to earn cash back like you haven't in the past. It's easy to just remind yourself to log into Ebates when you want to bid at eBay or buy some new clothes at ShopBop, but there are a number of things that we buy every day that people don't realize you can purchase online to earn cash back on.

One such item is tires. While all of us who own a vehicle have to replace tires from time to time, if you're like me, you just go to your nearest tire shop or favorite chain store, and pick up a new tire, or a new set of four, and have them install it while you wait. While this is a perfectly fine way to buy tires, and it makes perfect sense, why not earn cash back on something you'd be buying anyways? See, just last week I noticed that the tires on the ol' Billmobile were getting a little thin, and while one was in really good shape (read: only about four months old) the rest were starting to show more and more signs of wear. I did a little research on our site to make sure Sears offered cash back on tires, and sure enough, they did. So I was quickly able to order four new tires, and use that almost-new one as my new spare!

Sears TiresBeing somewhat savvy when it comes to automotive needs and upkeep, I knew which size tire was on my vehicle, and was able to shop that way. If you are unsure, Sears also offers an automated system to help you find the right tires, in which you enter in the make, model, and year of your car, and their tire widget will pick the right size tires for you. Then all you have to do is proceed with your order online as usual, select "install at store" and you not only earn 2% Cash Back, you don't pay shipping, since they're already in-house.

There is one down side: you still pay for labor and installation. Speaking personally, mine was about $75. Still, I earned 2% Cash Back on my $435 tire purchase, which was a sweet little tomato of savings.

What else have you saved money on that most people wouldn't think about when shopping through Ebates?

Abeate For Payless.jpgPart of being "in the know", is knowing that fashion isn't just about expensive labels, snobby boutiques, and too-cool-for-school sales people. Fashion is an art form, and can't be held to just one stereotype. It can, however, be found in flea markets, mass retailers, on the sidewalk, and sitting on the shelves in Payless. Yes, Payless has joined the legions of retailers collaborating with top designers to bring their customers the most fashion-forward pieces at unfashionable prices.

Anyone who's read my blog is quite aware of my love for clothing lines Alice and Olivia, and Abaete. Both labels are known for their attention to detail and playful use of color, so imagine my surprise when I discovered these lines selling at Payless Shoe Source. From funky gladiator sandals to cute totes, the selection is big enough to satisfy anyone's taste. These Dylan Canvas Skimmers by Abaete are the perfect hybrid of cute flat meets practical sneaker. The best part about this shoe is how amazingly affordable it is, and at $28, this shoe is a steal compared to the line's normal selling range.

Payless also carries lines by Lela Rose as well as Patricia Field. Patricia was the head stylist on Sex and the City, and is one of my heroes for her use of high and low fashion. My favorite item in the collection is the Tango Coin Purse. Besides being impeccably cute, this coin purse can be clipped onto your jeans for a hands free night. Despite being tiny, it can easily hold credit cards, cash, and keys without looking bulky. At $20, it's a cheap alternative to an expensive clutch. Not that I don't love those too.....

bridezilla.jpgWriting about wedding dresses is something best left to two groups of women. Those who have walked down the aisle, and those who are planning to walk down the aisle. I belong to group three which I like to call the delusional group. There is no wedding, no fiance, and not even a suitor who could be coerced into becoming a fiance. The only aisles I walk down happen to be at my local grocery store. Regardless of this slight oversight, I shop for wedding dresses on a fairly regular basis. Like I said, delusional.

Another group of women I belong to is the vintage lover group. This group is known for it's love of rare finds that we believe to be one of a kind, and we convince ourselves of this feverishly by spending $80 on a tattered blouse. The older and more torn the garment, the more authentic, and therefore distinct, we look. This mentality applies to wedding dresses as well as Mexican peasant blouses, 50's prom dresses, and of course the oh so popular vintage concert t-shirts. You weren't born when the band played Monterey Pop, but your dad's-friend's-brother was.

Vintage ebay Wedding Dress.jpgBesides wanting to look like I don't shop at David's Bridal, there's something utterly romantic about a garment made so long ago. There's no argument that the quality of lace and beading is simply unparalleled in today's clothing. When I do someday walk down an aisle not filled with canned pork and beans, I want to look unique and not mass produced. This is where eBay comes in handy. For those seeking the rare, ebay's extensive vintage collection ranges from post-Civil War era, to today. There's something for everyone, no matter what you're looking for. Check often, as new items are listed and quickly auctioned off everyday.

One piece I found devastatingly beautiful was this beaded gown from the 30's. One length in the front, the fabric on this piece splits into two tiers, giving the illusion of a train. Although this gown is within the cream family, the soft palette is more romantic to me than ordinary white. There's even a pink velvet belt for added glamour. I envision wearing this with my hair wrapped in bold flowers such as fuchsia Petunias. The look is very old southern charm, and for a yankee such as myself, a nice change of pace. Shopping on eBay through Ebates will get you 3% cash back, however there are some restrictions. Cash back is not offered to real estate deals, eBay motors, and other big tickets items like business/industrial. For those shopping for everything else, eBay has it and then some.

"Do you know the way to use eBay? Millions of people do, so can you let's start today..."

December 30, 2008

Tomorrow is the last day of 2008, and I can speak for myself here when I say that I am not so sad to say goodbye. In fact, I am excited for a fresh start in 2009. However high our goals for the New Year, we all need a little inspiration to follow through with our projected self-improvements. Personally, I would like to be more consistent with my fitness routine. I have tried many things  to motivate myself to attend a Yoga class or to go for a brisk run, and nothing has really inspired me to partake in exercise more than on a sporadic basis. So I figured that I should use my love of shopping as a motivational tool. I will shop for workout clothing so that I will be so inspired to wear the clothing that I will gladly make the trek the gym. Although I'm embellishing the truth a bit, the point is the same: you need to set yourself up to be successful in your resolutions, no matter what they are. My way is to buy the gear I need to make working out more pleasant.

I got a little more motivation  from Gap, where they are currently having a special New Year's 30% off sale on all work out bottoms. Once my favorite lounge pants and now my favorite workout pants, these Stretch Cotton Fold Over Pants are now under $25 with 6% cash back. These pants are super comfortable and quite possibly the most flattering workout pants I have ever worn. They go from early morning Yoga class to the coffee shop-without screaming "I just worked out".

EssentialCottonPants.jpg

Stock up on the essentials while all Gap Body Sport bottoms are 30% off and save. Hurry, the sale ends January 14 when merchandise will return to regular price. And don't forget that after tomorrow our Double Cash Back Holiday Promotion ends, so Gap will return to 3% cash back, so you'd better act fast if you want to save as much as possible.

December 17, 2008

If your New Year's resolution is to save some cash, I've got some news that will allow you to save your money without sacrificing looking fabulous. Brooklyn-based handbag line Hayden-Harnett is the newest designer line to announce a collaboration with Target, due in stores December 28th, which is perfect timing if you want to turn over a new and more frugal leaf in the New Year. haydenharnett-00.jpgThe Spring 2009 Collection promises chic and affordable handbags from printed satchels (pictured left) for just $49.99 and sleek clutches like this one for just $29.99, both of which come with 4% cash back, of course. haydenharnett-07.jpg

The whole line is sure to impress without breaking the bank or any resolutions! If you are looking for the real deal, and want to invest in an original Hayden-Harnett bag, you can get 4% cash back on your purchases through Ebates. As one our our merchants, you can shop the designer's own website for an extensive collection of bags, some of which are even on sale. You'll find bags for work or travel, and even iPod cases and fun accessories too.

Hayden-HarnettSoniaTote.jpgPick up this Sonia tote for 45% off, now just $297. You'll enjoy 4% cash back in your wallet after saving $243 off the original price. Now I'll have no problem keeping my resolutions about smart shopping and saving money. But shopping less? No way.

Shop On!

Any Winehouse 2.jpgAlthough Amy Winehouse said no, no, no to rehab, she has said yes to great fashion. Her style is much like her music. Colorful, retro, and full of soul. As if her 60's beehive hairstyle wasn't eye catching enough, Amy's rock-a-billy/ 60's Motown fashion is done in the only way she can: amazingly.

As for myself, I've always loved the rock-a-billy look of the mid 50's to early 60's. The halter dresses, the stiff and extremely scratchy crinoline, not to mention the cherry red lipstick. No time period embraces a woman's curves such as this era of pencil skirts and shrunken cardigans. If Betty Page was the flame for this look, then Any Winehouse (minus the drug addiction) is the torch. Despite my love for this va-va-voom look, achieving it without looking like a fool (or like you're wearing a Halloween costume) is best left to the pros (which I am not). Dressing the part takes more than a few key pieces in one's wardrobe. The difference between rock-a-billy sex pot, and school teacher is knowing what works and what doesn't. This Cropped Jacket From J.Crew is a perfect example of a retro staple with a fun twist. Instead of pairing this with cropped leggings and looking like Marilyn, try a dark rinse jean and a white t-shirt. Originally $248, this jacket is now just $169.99, making me not just a stylish shopper, but a smart one too.

Feather Headband.jpg
Another retro trend I am loving this Winter season is the resurgence of vintage-inspired feather headpieces like this feather headband from Urban Outfitters. Although much more flapper than rock-a-billy, this beautiful piece is totally feminine, and is great for bad hair days (which I am always having). Perfect with a a cocktail dress for New Year's, or a simple black sweater for dinner with friends, this accessory is sure to become my new want-to-wear-everyday item, replacing my beloved beret. At just $18, it's not going to cause me wallet shock, which in these times of financial hysteria is a good -- no, great -- thing. Both these stores will earn me 2% cash back, making me one happy (and trendy) customer.

November 12, 2008

Sorry I have been quiet lately, but there has been a lot going on behind the scenes of the Ebates blog, which I can only let you speculate about.

Still, it wouldn't be a Wednesday for me if I didn't let you know about some random merchant, and today, that is Getzat.com. It's a one-stop solution for all your poster needs.

Have a daughter who wants a Twilight movie poster? Get it at GetZat. Have a son who is almost as Batman-obsessed as me? Find all the best Dark Knight posters at GetZat.  Cool hipster want some wall art? Get them this Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas print at GetZat!

Get the picture?   Now Get Zat!!!! (with 12% cash back!)

October 10, 2008

Here in San Francisco, the weather is cooling down a little, and that means that it's a good weekend to stay inside, keep warm, and do some good old fashioned online shopping. Halloween is almost here, and a number of our merchants are offering sales on all your Halloween needs. This is a perfect chance to stock up on candy corn, costumes, and candles. Get a candy dish with a hand that pops out of it. Buy a costume for your pet. You know you're running low on imitation plastic tombstones. Have you checked your supply of fake blood for this year? How about bucketloads of candy? Whatever you're looking to get, now is the time. Plus there's even a way to win even more money by getting into the Halloween spirit.

Here's the plan: we just launched our Halloween Costume Competition, and this is the perfect chance for you to really cash in. What you do is find a great sale and buy a great costume from any number of our merchants, take a compelling picture of it, and submit it for the competition. If your photo wins, you'll get a $300 gift card to Snapfish. It's a chance to make money just for getting in the Halloween spirit.

Wr

So stay in this weekend, do some shopping, and snap some pictures - it might make you $300 richer! If you need inspiration, just tell yourself "I need to take a picture that is better than this."

September 24, 2008

I am going to level with you folks here: I look forward to this time all week long. As excited as I may get about Free Shipping Friday, the "Did you know?" segment is always the most fun bit of writing I do in any given work week. I like the absurdity of my searching for sites to feature on Wednesdays: I scroll up and down our list of merchants, trying to find store names that I don't recognize and whose names generally have little or nothing to do with what they sell.  Today's find is no exception, though I will say that I was surprised at just how much high-quality stuff I was able to find at this particular site.

Don't be confused, Acorn Online doesn't sell food, or any nut-related products whatsoever. Rather, they specialize in gifts, entertainment (DVD and CD collections abound), and home & garden accents. The site has, as I love, an eclectic mix of products, but doesn't go so far as to have some of the more absurd pairings that always tickle my funny bone. Still, there are a few rather amazing products to be found here if I don't say so myself.

Surely_you_joust
First and foremost, Remote Control Jousting Knights. Let me give that a minute to soak in...  Remote. Control. Jousting. Knights. These little guys might be the greatest development in problem solving ever made. Truth be told, I'd probably start arguments with my friends and co-workers just so we could settle it with a joust. They may be almost fifty dollars, but can you really put a price on endless entertainment and good-natured competition?

Turtle

A second find from this site is the Twilight Turtle. While this is technically a kid's product, I would be more than happy to own one of these myself. It could be my borderline obsessive love for seeing stars on my ceiling, or just the soft spot I have for turtles; either way, I think this is a great product and any child (or young at heart individual) would be happy to have it. Imagine how comforting it would be to lie in bed and see the stars shining back down at you...

Clock

Finally, for a little touch of class, is this Skeleton Clock. I blogged about my clock fetish last week, so this should come as little surprise, but I think this clock is the bee's knees. It's compact enough for desktop use at just ten inches high, but it has all the class and good looks of a grandfather clock, it even chimes every hour. Unlike my last clock pick, this clock's gears all actually move inside this refined housing of glass and piano finished alder wood. I don't know about you, but I'd be proud to have this gorgeous piece of machinery sitting on my mantle.

So there you have it: Acorn Online. They have a wide array of products, many of which are arranged into incredibly helpful categories and lists. You may not have known about it by their name, but I certainly hope you give them a browsing; you won't be disappointed. Plus, 6% Cash Back from Ebates only sweetens the already great deals you can find on this site.

September 15, 2008

When it comes to city driving, I am a big fan of the horn. I find it tamer and more lady-like than spewing expletives out the window to my fellow driver. The horn gets a bad wrap, and it really expresses a variety of sentiments like, “Excuse me, you are in the way” or “Wow, you really can’t drive.” It can even be a handy tool in being a good Samaritan by telling someone “You left your latte on the roof of your car.” The horn can express interest, disinterest, and healthy, passive-aggressive American rage.  So one may ask oneself, with all the uses of a car's horn, why have just one?
Tequilahorn Because it is opposite day at the Ebates blogging nucleus, I thought I would put fashion on the side burner (never on the back burner), and think about what other accouterments would fill my life with style and flair. I stumbled upon Stylin’ Trucks and found an entire page of air horns that I could attach to my vehicle. They are available at discount prices, plus 3% Cash Back, and most items ship same day. They have it all! From a Cavalry Charge Musical to a Tequila Musical air horn kit. The latter might present a problem if you are trying to stay under the radar after one too many tequila shots at the town saloon. However, there is a Star Trek musical air horn kit that will deter the cops but attract the ladies! It is really worth a look, especially if you want to put a little personality into your ride. Trust me; it will be worth the cruising ticket to show off your new horn and say excuse me to your fellow driver with the Godfather Theme. So, in light of opposite day, I encourage all of you to add some style to your vehicle with the help of Stylin’ Trucks and make the roadway a runway.

September 3, 2008

Over the past few weeks I have spoken time and time again about my love of whimsical garden gnomes.  Today, I am finally revealing an obsession that runs even deeper than that. This bizarre love of mine is even more pronounced than my love for all things Batman. I'm talking about my obsession with monkeys. Don't ask me why or how this came to be, but I just crack up on principal when I think of all things simian.
Zaius

Planet of the Apes?
Love it.

Donkey_kong
Donkey Kong?
Can't get enough of that crazy barrel-throwing primate.

Mr. Teeny, the rollerskating monkey sidekick of Krusty the Klown? One of my favorite Simpsons characters.

Mrteeny

I'm not just listing these famous monkeys for my own health.  Rather, I found a site this week who features monkey products and other assorted products with animal themes. This may well be the one merchant available through Ebates that offers you the chance to sort through their products by which animal print you want to see. If that isn't advanced, I don't know what is.

So, if you get a chance, check out The Jungle Store. It's a great site chock full of animal products. From greeting cards to stuffed animals, masks to mouse pads, they have all your gift giving or just plain fun needs. What's better is that at The Jungle store, the purchase of a number of their products (it seems like all paper goods, from what I can tell) donate a portion of their proceeds to helping global conservation and protecting animals in captivity, so you can help assure that future generations have monkeys to crack them up as well.

Monkeybook

Of all the great products, I have two that I have to give personal recommendations on: the first is the Orangutan Journal. Who wouldn't want to pen the next great American novel on the face of this silly looking simian?
Monkeycard
The other is the Orangutan Greeting Card, which
resembles me after a late night more than I'd like to admit.  Either way, it's just $2.50 for this blank card, and if you're anything like me, this card will have you smiling before you even read the note that's written inside of it.

So there you have it. Buy a stuffed rhinoceros, or an inflatable alligator for your pool, or even spice up the bedroom with a cheetah-print sheet set. Whatever your flavor, you can find it all at The Jungle Store while getting 5% Cash Back from Ebates.

August 20, 2008

Before I start telling you about this site, I will add my personal disclaimer: if you are easily offended or take no joy in low-brow humor, do NOT go to this site.

If you're continuing on, don't say that I didn't warn you.

So for this week's installment of "Did you know?", I'll be highlighting a site that flies under the radar a lot, and that is PrankPlace.com. Just from the name, you should expect no surprises. This site is your one-stop shop for every single prank, joke, novelty item, and gag gift you could ever want. I can't say that I've ever found a website with such a wide variety of novelty items: fake toilet paper, fart machines, Jesus flashlight key chains, even exploding golf balls. For the devious prankster in your family, this site could be highly dangerous. From what I know of gag gifts and novelty items, the prices seem rather competitive, and through Ebates you get a whopping 7% back on all purchases.

The primary reason I am recommending this site is because of a few specific products they have that struck me particularly funny. I like to think of myself as possessing fairly refined tastes, and I'd like to believe that the majority of the products on this site are a bit more low-brow than I would usually be intrigued by. However, some products proved me wrong.

The first of those is The Toilet Monster. Green_redmonster I don't know why I find these little guy so amusing, but whatever the reason may be, every time I see them I start laughing. They're harmless, they're not crude or sexual, they're just kind of a nuisance if you really have to go.  Still, I have never seen one of these before, and for less than $20 before your cash back, it makes for a great gag gift for the prankster in your life.

A line of products that PrankPlace stocks that also cracks me up are the de-motivational posters. We've all seen the ones that talk about success and hard work, complete with an uplifting line or two about how important it is to look on the bright side of life. For the cynic in your life, these posters are a bit more fitting, and at $2.89, who could pass one up?  Here's an example:

Underachievement

If you can't read the text, it says "Underachievement: The tallest blade of grass is the first to be cut by the lawnmower."

Finally, what would a Bill-recommended site be without the presence of some garden gnomes?  Sure enough, PrankPlace has an entire page of their site dedicated to gnomes and gnome accessories. Mooning gnomes, gnomes who stand on their heads, even flatulent gnomes; they have got it all.

So there's your Wednesday "Did You Know?" and I hope that the information about this site doesn't fall into the wrong hands, because if it does, I could end up with a Toilet Monster where I least expect one.

Tuesday was a big day here at Ebates- we just launched our hottest feature since Double Cash Back Tuesday: The Ebates Daily Double!

How does it work? Simple. Every day, we double the Cash Back at one of our most popular stores. It's basically the same idea as Double Cash Back Tuesday but everyday, and at a different store. Since Tuesday, we have featured Bloomingdale's, Newegg and Budget Rent A Car! I recently got a sneak preview of some of the soon-to-be featured stores, and trust me- they're good. There will definitely be a little something for everyone.

For those of you who prefer to spend your money on ecologically sustainable goods, you know just how expensive they can be when compared to their toxic, non-green alternatives. Not anymore! Wal-Mart recently launched an Earth-Friendly line of apparel and household items- combine that with 4% Cash Back and you've got an unbeatable deal. Here are some of their best green deals I discussed in a recent newsletter:

Go green and save green! Simply replace your regular light bulbs with those from GE Energy Smart. Depending on the bulb, you can save up to $130 in energy costs! Read Wal-Mart's product description to see exactly how much you'll save with each eco-friendly bulb. Think organic equals expensive? Think again! Look sustainably stylish in organic cotton tees starting at just $6.22 for kids and $7.88 for adults! At most stores, shirts like these are more than $30! Organic cotton baby coveralls are reduced to just $6.00-  there's no gentler fabric for your baby's sensitive skin! Check the clearance section for silky-soft Eco-Organic cotton sheet sets, now almost 20% off! Don't miss out on Energy Efficient appliances like the Haier Front-Load Washer for just $288.87. Watch your energy use drop while your savings grow!

121806blogsweaterThere are only two days left to enter Ebates' Worst Holiday Gift Contest! Tell us in 250 words or less about the worst gift you've ever received, and you will have a chance to win one of three $500 gift cards to Red Envelope, Circuit City or SmartBargains! The deadline to enter is 12PM (PST) on December 20th.

You know you have an awful gift lurking somewhere in the dark recesses of your home (much like the decrepit aunt in a Victorian novel)- or, if you have major cojones, it's sitting underneath an acquaintance's Christmas tree at this very moment. I still tremble at the memory of that bow-appliqued Beefy-T courtesy of the "weird girl" at my sixth grade Christmas party. Good intentions, yada yada. No one wants to wear puffy paint.

Don't you think a $500 shopping spree would be a great way to erase the haunting memory of terrible gifts past?

121806bloggiftsCircuit City has a list of promotions so long that I can't bring myself to post them all here. Most important is their Christmas Eve free shipping; order by December 19th and you can expect your goods to arrive by Sunday. Red Envelope doesn't have any current coupons, but you can get 6% Cash Back at Ebates. My favorite? SmartBargains. I really like the variety of brands on apparel and home decor.

Good luck!

092106blogscaryjeanseditYou may have thought your skinny jeans were long forgotten (along with scrunchies and shoulder pads), but think again! For months, skinny jeans have been the It item of 2006!

According to USA Today , "Designers Nicolas Ghesquiere, Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney have included skinny jeans in their collections for the past two seasons, but the look is just beginning to intrigue mainstream America."

There are some great skinny jeans out there, from a range of designers: Levi's, Armani Exchange, plus a bunch from eLuxury. We've seen them look cute tucked into boots, dressed up with stilettos and even with a simple pair of flats. But have skinny jeans gone too far?092106blogkneesockjeansedit

I'd like to direct your attention to  CLD Knee Sock Jeans. Worn with boots, they look perfectly harmless. But take off the boots and socks, and- hey! What's this?

That's right. Those stripey socks are attached to the jeans. Attached, as in sewn-together. As in footie jeans.

What do we think of this? Sure, it can be a little tricky to tuck jeans into boots, but do we really need our socks to be inseparably linked to our pants? What if, upon arriving at the home of a new acquaintance, you are ordered to remove your boots at the door? What then!?

And finally, there's Cheap Monday. Please, have a look and if you can explain to me what the bleep is going on with these pants, I'll give you a prize. And by prize, I mean a jpeg of The Hoff that I swiped from Google's image search. It's ok. You can thank me later.

Elmotmxstanding_1 Remember the Tickle-Me-Elmo craze of 1996? Well, this time, you can stow your brass knuckles.

Elmo T.M.X, the tenth anniversary edition of Tickle-Me-Elmo, was just released on Monday, and, according to CNN, "Elmo fans should grab the new toy while they can, because industry  analysts are already anticipating a shortage of Elmo T.M.X. over the  holiday shopping season".

As amusing as it may be to imagine thousands of surly soccer moms pillaging the local Wal-Mart, why not give peace a chance? Buy your Elmo T.M.X now, and you'll still have enough teeth to fully enjoy your holiday desserts.

Where can you buy Elmo T.M.X? Well, Target still has them in stock, but you have to buy IN-STORE. So hurry! (Or sign up for boxing lessons. You'll be glad you did.)

Check out Elmo T.M.X's "International Debut" on Good Morning America:

Have any of you gotten your hands on Elmo T.M.X?

September 7, 2006

Today I thought I'd showcase some of my favorite websites and blogs. Some are product-specific, some help you save money, but they all relate to shopping in one way or another!

  • Shoes2Clothes and Accessories: Manolo's Shoe Blog, Daily Denim , The Bag Blog. Most of the products featured in these blogs are pretty high end (read: not cheap!) but they do make a point to feature some bargains from time to time. Plus, Manolo (not to be confused with Blahnik) is simply hilarious. The good news is that as an Ebates user, you don't have to pay retail price! With several merchants carrying designer apparel , you can get Cash Back when you splurge on deluxe duds.
  • Saving Money/D.I.Y: The Pink of Perfection. In this vlog, Sarah and Sebastian are a team of crafty hipsters who can make anything look easy (and beautiful)! They have a great philosophy: "'Thrifty,' isn't necessarily about doing things the cheapest way possible, but rather knowing when to splurge, when to pinch, and always being happy with the charming imperfections of doing things yourself." I couldn't agree more!

  • Doryn2Health and Beauty: Spa Black Book . Written by Doryn Wallach, an American expat living in London, Spa Black Book is a reincarnation of her former blog, Doryn's Dish. The Dish met a sad demise a couple months back, but Doryn is picking  up right where she left off, focusing her blog on spa and beauty products in both London and New York. Her reviews are thoughtful and honest. You can find most of the featured goods on Ebates in the health and beauty category.
  • Tech: Apple Insider, MacRumors. If, to you, juicy gossip involves cool new widgets rather than the first ever photos of Suri Cruise, these sites are right up your alley. Of course, these are mainly for the Mac users out there, but the rumors are juicy enough to appeal to even the most die-hard PC user.
  • CatsterPets: Dogster and Catster. Ever worry that others will think you're weird for talking 'for your cat'? Not on these sites! They've got great forums for everything from health care to pet fashion! Speaking of...have you been to the Ebates Pet Stores page?

  • Just for Fun: Dooce, Perez Hilton, The Superficial. If you haven't read the Dooce background story, she was "Dooced" (fired for writing about work on her blog) from a certain big-name web startup whose name she won't reveal. Since then, she has become a stay at home mom and one of the most popular bloggers in the blogosphere. Perez Hilton and The Superficial are both pure guilty pleasure celebrity gossip blogs- why pay for US Weekly when you can get fresh juicy gossip every day for free?

TargetdoublecashbackI know I've said it before, but I love Target! No longer a tawdry den of puffy-painted abominations, Target  has revamped their image and offers affordable and stylish wares to  impress even the most discerning discount shopper.

There's no better time  to buy; today is Double Cash Back Tuesday at Ebates! When you buy from Target.com, you'll get 8% Cash Back!

If you want to save cash but stock up on unique, exotic home furnishings, then  Target's Global Bazaar is a great option, especially if you're a Pier One or Cost Plus World Market shopper (neither has a Cash Back program). They've got cool pieces inspired by distant locales from South Asia to Eastern Europe, and you don't have to risk a case of Delhi Belly to get them!

They've got a cute new line of women's apparel called "Paul and Joe" which features french-inspired fashions geared toward younger women. If you're not sure you can pull off the green houndstooth miniskirts, then check out the ever-popular line by Isaac Mizrahi!

To top it all off, Target is offering free shipping for a limited time on all bed and bath items and on women's apparel if you spend $50 or more!

There are lots of reasons to like American Eagle Outfitters. Not only are they a merchant catering to the under-30 crowd who actually clothe their models (unlike a certain competitor), they recognize that people come in a whole rainbow of colors and choose their models based on this revolutionary notion ( unlike...well, you know the rest)! Who knew that Western European ancestry isn't a pre-req for wearing polo shirts and trendy layering tops?

Off the soapbox, American Eagle is doing Free Shipping on orders of $100 or more! There's nothing better than jeans and a comfy sweater for sitting in class, so why not get 'em from American Eagle?

This deal will last until August 27th, so head on over and get those last minute basics for back-to-school. Just use discount code 78965027 at checkout.

This is one of the best back-to-school deals I've seen so far! Best Buy has put together a Dorm Room Package that includes a mini-fridge, television and discount dorm suppliesmicrowave for $199!

This deal is so popular that it's backordered for a week or two.

Here's the low down on the goods:

  • Avanti 1.7 Cu. Ft. Compact Thermoelectric Refrigerator:  This cute little fridge holds just enough to keep your room stocked  with cool drinks, and is big enough to hold a 2-liter bottle of of  Jarritos. Or Sprite. Because that's what you drink in college.
  • Insignia 20" Flat Tube TV: So, technically it's not a flat screen TV, it's a flat tube TV...  but the screen just looks flat. Best Buy describes it this way: "Flat  picture tube produces vivid images without the glare and picture  distortion common with curved picture tubes." Whatever you want to call  it, it's a pretty darn slick looking TV for the price.
  • Proctor Silex .6 Cu. Ft. Compact Microwave:  Just think- with a microwave in your dorm, you can practically bury  yourself in mountains of Easy Mac! They don't tell you this in high  school, but that's what college really is all about: creamy, delicious  Easy Mac. Ramen is so '90's.

August 18, 2006

discount booko...  you've bought some new clothes, a backpack, and you've got your  highlighters all ready to go, but where are your books for your lit  class? Barnes & Noble is marking down their Classics  50% off! Lots of them are around $2.47, and that's before Cash Back from Ebates!

Why not buy your books with a friend? If you spend $25 or more, you get free shipping!

How  often can you buy brand new books for this cheap? It's a lot better  than chipping dried chocolate off your student store used copy of "Madame Bovary".

On TLC they do "A Wedding Story" and "A Baby Story". Here at Ebates, we're doing the first ever "A Big Fat Check Story".

So stock up on Kleenex, and grab some Bon Bons. You already know the part about the Big Fat Check arriving in your mailbox- now watch what happens on our end!

The check printer sits, innocently enough.

Then they print- thousands upon thousands.

Then, we get a ton of crates
from USPS.

The crates are filled with your Big Fat Checks. (we have to hire people to do this. It takes days and days!)

The checks wait patiently to be picked up...

Finally, a person from USPS arrives to haul away the Big Fat Checks. It takes several of
these loads!

*taps fingers*

This part takes a while.

Phew! That's a lot of Cash
Back!

Once they're all stacked, we can hardly see the postman.

Wait, there he is!

Then the van is loaded and
ready to go!

This was yesterday, so you should receive your Big Fat Check within a few days!

Like you grandfather always warned, "Don't spend it all in one place, now, ya hear?"

August 16, 2006

According to Wikipedia, "'Flea season' is traditionally at the end of summer and in the early fall, but in warmer areas can last year  round." For anyone that has a carpet or knotty old wood floor, you know  how futile this battle can be! They lay their eggs in the carpet, bite  you when you're sleeping and drive your cat or dog into violent  scratching fits that make their legs go like this for hours! The little blood-suckers are more stubborn than Mariah Carey's backstage demands. There are myriad ways to keep your cat or dog flea and tick free, but how do you know which way is safest?

The East Bay SPCA says that "flea collars, powders and sprays are ineffective and are not recommended. DO NOT use anymedication or flea-killing agent not recommended by your veterinarian". In fact, on the insistence of the Environmental Protection Agency,  Hartz, a popular brand for flea and tick preventives, "has agreed to  cancel uses of several flea and tick products that may be associated  with a range of adverse reactions, including hair loss, salivation,  tremors, and numerous deaths in cats and kittens." It's comforting to  know that the EPA has steppedup on this issue. Hopefully Hartz will be able to develop non-toxic alternatives to their current line of flea and tick control products.

The widely reputed safe alternative to flea collars and drops is Advantage topical solution. Highly effective and veterinarian-recommended,  Advantage has become one of the most popular methods offlea control for  dogs and cats. The East Bay SPCA supports it, saying "Advantage works  best for fleas". This kind of effectiveness, however, doesn't come  cheap. If you buy Advantage from your veterinarian, you can end up  paying hundreds of dollars for a several-month supply (especially if  you have multiple cats or dogs)!

If you haven't visited the Pet Stores page at Ebates, take a moment to peruse the deals! You can find great  bargains on Advantage that will likely be a lot cheaper than the prices  offered by your vet. Most of these stores offer Cash Back through Ebates. Be sure to look at the coupons for each store to compare prices!:

If  you're looking for a new pair of running shoes and you're hoping to do  a little more globe-trotting than marathoning, then why not get your  new kicks from Le discount running shoesCoq Sportif?  They're cooler than similar shoes from Puma or Gola, because no one  will know what brand of shoes you're wearing. Imagine how baffled  people will be when you lift up the leg of your Diesel jeans to reveal a proud and colorful rooster! You can say you picked them up in some quaint little boutique in Montmarte!

The best part is that this is one chicken the masses haven't devoured, so they are often on sale. Eastbay has a Pick Your Price sale right now, and you'll find lots of Le Coq Sportif sneakers for $29.99-$39.99! Yoox.com has an even bigger selection of colors at the same low prices.

Check out the Le Coq Sportif homepage. It's in French, and it's a Flash site (so can't be  translated), but it's still worth checking out the pigs in sunglasses,  chickens wearing sneakers- you know, the kinds of things one looks for  in a good website. Maybe you can woo some cute Frenchman (or  Frenchwoman) to translate it for you over a romantic dinner of brie and  baguette. Or poulet!

The Cell Phone: A triumph of humankind's ingenuity, and certainly one of the most significant developments of the latter half of the 20th century.

Let's face it: discount razrwhen someone's yacking next to you in line at Safeway, it can be more annoying than a hundred Hoodia spams in your inbox from your "pal" Richard Q. Unicorn.

Despite the petty annoyances, most of us need our cell phones simply for the convenience factor. Ebates offers Cash Back at some of the top mobile service providers:

Oftentimes, the mail-in rebates from these carriers are so good that your cell phone costs zero dollars. That considered, the Cash Back from Ebates is all gravy!

Soon, we'll look at some of the hottest phones on the market!

One of the most important elements of college life is your dorm.  I can still remember my triple room at Cal: long evenings studying together, bonding over a glass of wine...wanting to rip my hair out because the boorish twits left a week-old turkey sandwich to rot on top of the microwave!!! Dorm life certainly has its charms, doesn't it?

Most universities keep the dorms pared down to a minimum- sizewise and stylewise. Some even have cinderblock walls! Fortunately, there's lots of ways to turn your otherwise austere abode into a cozy retreat: cash back discount bedding

Cool Bedding: Dorm size bedding has never looked better! Target and Delia*s both offer  stylish, modern designs that will warm up your space and make it feel like home. Whether you like pop-art apples, dramatic Victorian patterns or bold solid color, they've got you covered.

Mood Lighting: If  you want your room to look a poorly-wired 7-Eleven, then by all means,  keep the flourescent lights so generously provided by the dorm. If,  however, you want a warmer, cozier glow, get some lamps! They'll change the whole mood of the room, and you won't have to resort to the often overused Christmas light scheme.

A Cool Computer: For the budget-conscious student, the Compaq Presario v2000Z (as discussed yesterday) is a steal! For the Mac users, try a Mac Mini plus your own monitor. Target has a nice looking dorm bundle:  a set of wireless accessories including a keyboard, mouse and  router...this is handy since trying to snake a bunch of wires through a  room that's smaller than a naturist's armoire will be a little bit  tricky. discount french press cash back rebate

Coffee (and food) : Two words for you: FRENCH PRESS.  Don't drink the stuff in the cafeteria. As one of our Ebates staff  said, "you could make better coffee by squeezing the grounds in your  fist and pouring water through your fingers". A french press is an  easy, no-stove-required way to make gourmet coffee any barista would be  proud of. Just pour in your fresh ground beans, mix with hot water and  the press takes care of the rest! Imagine how impressed your study  groups will be when you practically have a Starbucks a mere 3 feet from  your bed! Trust me, you'll need a strong cup for those lectures on  diasporic transnational migration.Oh, and you might want to pick up a  microwave and mini-fridge too. You know, so you'll have something to  eat with the coffee.

discount clive backpackYes, it's August- those last precious weeks of cavorting with friends, staying up late and going to the beach.      Come September, it'll be the red ink on that first history exam that'll require a pair of sunglasses!

Why not look at the bright side? Back-to-School also means Back-to-School shopping, a welcome respite when you're about to dive into the books rather than the pool.

Lets  take a quick look at some of the essentials you'll need for a proper  scholastic debut, whether you're shopping for yourself or the kids:

        • A great bag: eBags and Ebates have teamed up to give you $10 off on any backpack purchase of $45 or more! They've got LiveWire bags that have an iPod holder, laptop packs, ultralight bags, as long as it's a backpack, you get a discount!

        • A new computer: For students, a great option is the Compaq Presario V2000Z. At $399.99 after a mail in discount booksrebate, it's not a huge investment and is a great machine for word-processing and web browsing.

        • New threads: For great Back-to-School bargains for the girls, try Delia*s or Alloy.  Both offer free shipping fororders of $75 or more. For guys and girls, another good pick is Old Navy.com. They have a flat $5 shipping rate and a ton of brand new styles in stock!
        • Books: Wal-Mart is doing 97 cent shipping on all books! It doesn't get much cheaper  than that. Barnes and Noble is having a summer clearance with some  titles up to 80% off!

On a budget? Tired of leaving the Apple Store with nothing but your sleek, titanium-encased dreams? Try buying a refurbished Mac or iPod.

I know, the r-word kind of gets stuck in my throat, too. It's hard for me to imagine my iBook in the arms of another. Word on the street, though, is that discount ipod nanorefurbished Macs and iPods are just as good as the brand new ones, but at a fraction of the cost. Apple has a very stringent refurbishment process, so you can feel confident about your purchase.

If you still aren't 100% convinced, remember that all machines are covered by Apple's One Year Limited Waranty. You can even buy Apple Care for total reassurance. (Which I always recommend since the coverage is more than generous. My 2002 iBook turned out to have some irreparable glitches, so Apple issued me a new iBook- even though I'd had mine for 2 years already- all because I had Apple Care. How cool is that?)

An Ebates member named Michael (not the same one from a couple days ago!) had this to say about his experience with Apple Certified refurbished computers: "As a member of Ebates, I have purchased several refurbished products and will continue to do so over the next couple of years.  The product is just a good as new and I save several hundreds of dollars in addition to getting my big fat check."

Although most of you aren't Mac users (let's not go there), many of you love the iPod. Apple is reducing their refurbished iPods up to $80 off!

Make sure you start with Ebates so you can get some Cash Back, too!

After careful analysis and critical examination, our Ebates Science Team has revealed that Ebates blog readers are PC-lovin', reality show hatin', iPod totin' suburban folk that love a medium-well done burger. Let's take a look at the results of our recent "Getting to Know You" survey:

Favorite Reality TV Show: Yikes! The audience has spoken! Apparently reality tv isn't de rigeur for the Ebates set these days. 51.1% of respondents selected "Other". Here is an excerpt of your comments:

        • "I hate reality shows"
        • "None"
        • "The Real World"
        • "They're all stupid!"
        • "I HATE reality tv shows!"
        • "The next food network star"
        • "I detest reality tv shows"

Cell Phones: Ebates users have mixed feelings about the gadget we love to loathe. Most of you use 'em, but don't exactly love to hear  them ringing off the hook. Here are some of your comments about our  most conflicted convenience, the cell phone:

      • "Always on vibrate, never in restaurants"
      • "Only use it for WAP to check bus arrival
      • "Like mine, don't live for it, though"
      • "I leave it in my car in case I breakdown"
      • "A necessary evil."
      • "Hang up and DRIVE!"
      • pie chart cell phone

How Do You Get Your Music?: Put  away your eyepatches, we've got hardly a pirate in the bunch! Most of  you like to get your music the old-fashioned way: with the radio, or CDs. I encourage you to check out iTunes if you haven't before used mp3's. It's really easy to organize your music, and you don't have to buy an entire album.

        tunes pie chart

Mac vs. PC: A whopping 80% of you are PC users! Can't anyone else show a little love for the Mac? Anyone?... Bueller? Well, I suppose the remaining 20% of us can go play by ourselves- with iTunes and iSight and iChat, and, well- you get the idea.

This survey poses only relevant questions, like, "What feelings do you have about cell phones ?" and "Do you like reality tv?".

Going back to your recent merchant recommendations, I know iTunes and Bloomingdale's were suggested by a couple readers- we do in fact have both of those  merchants. Bloomingdale's was just added last week and iTunes has been  here for a while, which is great news for us iPod junkies!

Stores  such as Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Victoria's Secret,  Anthropologie, Pier1 and Bath and Body Works unfortunately do not have  an affiliate marketing program, so we can't offer Cash Back for these stores. Zappos.com does have such a program, and we'd love to work with them, but for now, they choose not to go through Ebates.

Our  goal, of course, is to always have as many popular stores on our site  as possible. In fact, I'll let you in on a little secret: In the very  near future, Ebates is adding two new stores: a popular hotel merchant  and a leading apparel store.

(Hint: Where'd ya get them jeans?)

Our team is always trying to add new stores that you love. And we've got some great ones! Looking for:
        restoration hardware glider chair

        • POTTERY BARN or CRATE AND BARREL ? Try Restoration Hardware.  If the look you want is sleek, espresso-stained tables or luxe bedding,  Restoration Hardware's got it. It's in a similar price range and even  has some more retro-style items like their popular Walton Lane  collection. Plus if you're a Six Feet Under fan *cough* you'll remember  the time that Keith was talking up Restoration Hardware to the social  worker in Season 5- but I digress. Moving on!target global bazaar vase
        • PIER1? Try Bombay Company or the Global Bazaar at Target.  If you're in the market for affordable furniture with a worldly flavor,  the Global Bazaar is the place to be! You can get pretty darn specific  with what style you're into: India Traditional, Asia Modern, European,  the list goes on!
        • VICTORIA'S SECRET? Try Frederick's of Hollywood or figleaves.  figleaves features many designers, ranging from Bali to LaPerla, so  you're sure to find something that suits your budget for the budoir.  Plus their site is so easy to navigate- it'll make shopping a breeze.
        • ANTHROPOLOGIE? Try Urban Outfitters, Bluefly, CoutureCandy or SmartBargains. The secret here is that the bread and butter of the  Anthropologie collection primarily consists of three brands (among a  few others): Free People, Rebecca Beeson and Ella Moss. Free People is  Anthropologie's wholesale line that you can find easily at Urban  Outfitters and SmartBargains. Rebecca and Ella can be found at  CoutureCandy and BlueFly. You'll likely find several pieces that are  being sold at Anthopologie or that have the 'Anthro' look.
        • BATH AND BODY WORKS? Try The Body Shop, ShopNBC or CosmeticMall.  As a former devotee of Bath and Body Works, I can understand why you'd  be wont to use their familiar lines and scents, but that's just because  you haven't tried Jaqua. Trust me, with body whip in scents like  Buttercream Frosting and Mint Chocolate, you won't be longing for your  old Vanilla Bean moisturizer. It's that good. You can find the Jaqua line at CosmeticMall or ShopNBC. (Really! I know the NBC part sounds weird- but they've got it!)

sur la table platesSur  La Table is known for their exquisite culinary gadgets that appeal to  the gourmand in all of us, even if that gourmand prefers to put Fritos in their Hand-Thrown Tuscan Pottery.

For those of us that have filet mignon taste on a mac n' cheese budget, it's probably better to wait for the  sales to buy a twenty dollar ice cream scoop. Fortunately, that time is  here! I'm blown away by these discounts at the Sur La Table Summer Sale:

Sur la Table also has other great items on sale, such as Wusthof knives and Anolon Aluminum cookware for $100 off the regular price! At these prices, you can have your foie gras and eat it, too!

This blog is the way for YOU to voice your  opinions about Ebates, make suggestions and dish on your favorite  strategies for getting your money's worth!

I've  included several of your suggestions below, but left out those that  echo each other too closely; Who knew you were such a Zappos, Pottery  Barn and J.Crew lovin' bunch?

Come back soon to see what stores on Ebates offer similar merchandise!

Brianne.M: J.Crew!  J.Crew! J.CREW!  Because I buy a lot of suits, and suit pants from other stores never fit me right!  I know you can do it!anthropologie dress

rjpersonal: Ebates working with IKEA would be the best! Sooner the better, I say!
pier1 chairrbragg: L.L. BEAN would be great to have on ebates

IanSunrise:I would love it if ZAPPOS were a part of Ebates as well as SHOEBUY.COM! love those shoe stores!

Amanda K.: I would love to see POTTERY BARN --  they participate in UPromise,so there's no good reason that they  shouldn't play nice with eBates! :) Y'all have done a FANTASTIC job of  bringing great stores online -- I almost cried when you added AnnTaylor.com and AnnTaylorLoft.com! :) Other wish list entries? CRATEANDBARREL.com; TIMELESSINVITATIONS.com; PIER1.com; itunes.com... reply: Thanks for your comment, Amanda! We in fact do have iTunes Music Store on Ebates! Great suggestions!-Rebecca

jat252: AMAZON.com, because it has such a great selection of merchandise!

madpotter: You MUST include BATH & BODY WORKS in your list of merchants! Their fragrances and other products are the  only ones I buy. They are exceptional, as I am sure other Ebates  members will agree with. I make many purchases at Bath & Body Works  online, and would definitely go through Ebates if I could. Please add them soon. Thank you. Judycoach tote

Stevie: I would love to see ANTHROPOLOGIE, CB2, JCREW, and COACH.  I know that Coach is a long shot, but it would compel me to spend even  more money than I already do at these stores. I love EBATES!

harry and david pearsKyndlewood: I would love to see HARRY AND DAVID (www.harryanddavid.com) I enjoy sending goodies to frineds and family  for occasions. What better way to make people happy then YUMMIE snacks  and treats!

lisou21: Banana Republic was on my wish list for a long time, and it's here! Thanks for adding it! What about Bloomies? It's wedding season and my friends and I always spend a fortune there buying dresses. Reply: Lucky for you, Bloomingdale's was just added! Have fun!-Rebecca

DelawareBelle: I think you should add VICTORIA'S SECRET to your line-up. I know several people that shop on their online store  and I believe that buyers would purchase more merchandise if they were  able to access the store through Ebates!

Note: Some names have been modified for your privacy!

        July 21, 2006

Note: Remember to keep sending in your recommendations for NEW EBATES STORES so I ca post them in a blog next week!helioplex neutrogena sunblock

We  may be nearing the end of summer, but the sun is having no mercy on our  skin. No matter what hue you have, you risk sun damage when you step  outside unprotected. The two types of damaging sun rays are UVA and UVB. Neutrogena sums up the difference on their website:

"UVB  rays harm the skin's surface and are the primary cause of sunburn. UVA  rays are more penetrating– damaging collagen and elastin, which results  in signs of premature aging and may lead to skin cancer."

The  buzz lately, according to our graphic designer here at Ebates, is that  most sunscreens protect you from only one type of ultraviolet ray at a  time, whereas a new ingredient called Helioplex does double duty, blocking out both the UVA and UVB, so your skin is thoroughly protected and your face won't look like this at age 80.

Fortunately Ebates has several stores which are carrying this new wunder-elixir at a great price, including Skinstore.com and Drugstore.com. Skinstore gives a whopping 12% Cash Back through Ebates while Drugstore has a ton of Coupons and Discounts. Check them out and see which one works for you!

        July 20, 2006

You guys have some great ideas for new Ebates stores! I've been getting lots of comments on yesterday's post. Your comments will be posted next week. so keep 'em coming!

A rather urgent concern for many of you is that of J.Crew. It would be simply dreamy to have them on Ebates, but currently they do not have the option of giving Cash Back. The crisp summer linen, plush cashmere for autumn- oh, the agony.  The urgency I mentioned concerns the current Final Sale. They're taking  an additional 20% off sale items- imagine $118 blazers for less than  $49...yeah, it's that good.

Fortunately, Ebates has other wonderful stores that will quell your want for well-crafted, classic attire: Banana Republic (currently with markdowns up to 60% off!), Nordstrom, and

        *drum roll please...*

        BLOOMINGDALE'S!!!

That's right, folks. The Big Brown Bag has just landed on Ebates.

They've  got it all, from Lucky to Lacoste, so even though we don't have J.Crew  yet, rest assured that your preppy pinings will be sated.

So the saying goes. (Who said what? Clusters of- huh?!)

It is your turn, gentle reader (yes, YOU!) to make a wish.  Not for a pet unicorn or a shiny new Schwinn, but for new merchants!

Ebates has over 800 stores! There are lots of great ones  like American Eagle, iTunes, and Restoration Hardware, but haven’t you  ever longed for Cash Back on Pottery Barn linens or coupons for  mod accent chairs with names like “Snorg Lund” from IKEA? You know you have!

        HERE IS YOUR ASSIGNMENT:

        1. Comment on this entry

        2. Name a store you'd like to see added to Ebates

        3. Explain WHY it should be added to Ebates

I will take the most compelling, heart-warming suggestions and post them in a new blog next week. Let's butter up the folks on the Sales team here at Ebates and tell them what stores you yearn for!

Personally,  I'm hoping for Anthropologie and Zappos. The way they take those  lovingly multi-faceted shots of a pair of wedges sends chills up myspine.

Ever wonder what other Ebates users do when they log in? Do they plan lavish vacations to Paris for $150 off on the Coupons and Specials page?

        paris vacation travelocity

Do they buy a new iPod for those rather languid afternoons in their deeply discounted luxury hotel suite in St.Germain des Pres?

        ipod best buy

I'll let you in on a little secret.

They all go to Office Depot.

Yes, you read correctly.  I know it doesn't sound as thrilling as a whirlwind holiday to Berlin for $673 or a browse through the Louvre, but goshdarnit! Ebates users  love some good old-fashioned office supplies! Especially those that get  them a $30 discount when they spend at least $150. It's one of the most  popular coupons on Ebates, and for good reason: Office Depot sells tons of practical items that you probably use every day!

First,  make sure you read the fine print on the $30-off deal, because there  are a few things that you cannot buy at a discount, like computers,  cameras and printers. There are plenty of other cool items, however,  that'll get you big savings.

For instance, everyone needs ink cartridges, right? Those things can get kind of expensive. If you're not planning on leaving the printer/scanner/FAX-using  population any time soon, you might want to consider stocking up. For  some models, getting $30 off is like getting an entire cartridge for  free! And you don't have to do anything but click "Add To Cart" to get  it!

Other smart ways to use the coupon are with things like office furniture and supplies- you could get an ergonomic desk chair or even just the basics.. Hey, thousands of Ebates users can't be wrong!

Remember to start at Ebates to get your Cash Back!

Visiting eLuxury.com's  Final Clearance is like going to the estate sale of a wealthy old  woman. As you exhume the plush leather bags and dazzling patent pumps  from their not-so-sepulchral digs, you wonder, "Who was this chic,  fashionable woman? When did she wear these? Did she love this bag as  much as I?"

But really, this only makes you pause for a  moment before you grab the gorgeous goods and drop $20 faster than you  can say "Prada"!

The difference between the estate sale and eLuxury.com,  of course, is that no one died, and you don't have to sift through  heaps of old, dusty housecoats and fifty-year-old hot rollers. And  while you won't find a vintage Louis Vuitton clutch for $20, you may  come across some pretty hard-to-beat discounts on some slightly more current fashions. Just think of it as an extra special splurge.

eLuxury.com has marked selected shoes, bags and ready-to-wear up to 60% off! You  might expect to find a bunch of strappy sandals and vinyl beach totes  that you won't be able to wear until next summer, but think again! They've got plenty of seasonable fall attire that you can nab at a striking discount!

I've compiled the following list of my favorite eLuxury.com Clearance shoes and handbags that are appropriate for fall and, most importantly, have a significant markdown (read: around 40%-60% off). Be sure to check the shoes because some are only available in a couple  of sizes! Don't even think about doing your shopping without first  logging in to Ebates- they will give you Cash Back when you shop at eLuxury.com!

You can practically smell the rich leather aroma just by looking at this bag. Plus, there's a little pocket for your cell phone that  says, "Hello?". How cute is that? Even though no one else can see the  inside, at least you'll know it's there.

The Body Shop is one of my favorite places to indulge in sumptuous, yummy-smelling bath and beauty products. The coolest part is that they use tons of natural, good-for-you essential oils and (back to that whole green thing!) fair trade ingredients from around the globe. They are having their Semi-Annual Sale and have marked down their items up to 75% off, and Ebates is offering 5% Cash Back!

I don't know about you, but whenever stores have sales that require me to buy eight of something just to save a couple bucks, I'm a little, uh, skeptical. Who the heck needs a dozen pistachio-vanilla scented candles or six bottles of jasmine-rose-palm tree infused foot scrub?! Fortunately, The Body Shop knows what we love; you'll be glad to buy more than one!

Let's start with 5 glycerin soaps for $12. The Body Shop takes the most delicious, rich aromas and magically smooshes them into a regular ol' bar of soap. They've got about ten luscious scents to pick from; I highly recommend the Shea Butter, Nut and Passion Fruit. What I really like about these is that they are super fragrant when you are using them, but they don't linger all day. After bathing with these, you can wear your favorite scented lotion without smelling like a humid day a mall perfume counter!
Another good thing to buy in multiple is their Eye Color eyeshadow. They've got a huge palette of colors ranging from Pearl Gray to Peacock Green, so whether you're looking for something to wear to the office or out on the town, you'll find a color that suits you. These babies are normally $8.50 each, but right now they're marked down to 3 for $15! These cost less than your average drugstore brand but, unlike that goo from the Piggly Wiggly, they're made from natural moisturizers and essential oils, so stock up.  But remember, make sure you start through Ebates to get your Cash Back!

Thank goodness for digital cameras! They're great, aren't they? You can take hundreds of photos, have your finger over your lens half the time and still end up with a bunch that turned out great- all without having to buy film!

But what happens when you get home from that tour of Europe or that night on the town for which you're, uh, having trouble recalling the details? Your digital pictures go straight into iPhoto (or whatever photo application you use) and probably never leave your hard drive! Sure, when you feel like reliving that day at the world's biggest biergarten, you can pull out your laptop and scroll through 100's of thumbnails, but wouldn't it be nice to have just your favorites organized in one album?

Go over to Shutterfly.com. They've got a really cool service where you upload your digital images to their site, organize them into an album, and then Shutterfly binds it into a book which is sent to you in the mail. I went to India last January and actually bought one when I returned home. I couldn't believe how different my pictures looked when they were professionally printed and bound! The images come out looking crisp and vivid- just like in a magazine. I chose a simple black cloth cover, but they have many others to pick from: leather, suede, satin, you name it. All the options look clean, elegant and are a more modern (and easier!) alternative to traditional photo albums.

Ebates will give you 8% Cash Back when you shop at Shutterfly.com, and we've also got a coupon code that'll get you a free 8x10 print when you spend $10 or more. So go ahead: drag and drop those digi-pics into an album. Won't it be a little cozier to curl up with one of these than with your laptop?

The moment has finally arrived! Welcome to the premier of The  Daily Cash Back, the official blog of Ebates. My name is Rebecca, and I'll be featuring the top  deals and savviest shopping tips on the web offered through Ebates! Be sure to come back often so you  can stay on top of the latest deals we have to offer!

The hottest thing right now is green. No, not the color of  your aunt’s avocado-hued fridge from the ‘60’s, but being a little more aware  of how your purchases impact workers and the environment. You may be thinking,  “Well, I’d sure love to buy those organic, fair-trade, free-range ,  solar-powered coffee beans from the Chilean mountains, but for $25 a pound? NO  THANKS.” Not so fast! You can still do your part to make Earth-friendly  purchases but keep plenty of green in your wallet.

For  instance, check out REI.com. They’re having a July 4th Sale and  Clearance on clothing, camping gear, footwear and more with markdowns at 25-30% off. If you haven’t gotten a membership to  REI, I recommend that you do so, pronto! Any Joe Schmo can get discounts during  the seasonal sale, but only REI members get hooked up with a nice fat refund  check at the end of the year. The more you spend, the bigger the refund- gotta  love those Bay Area consumer co-ops (businesses that are co-owned by the  customer). Top this off with 3% Cash Back from Ebates and you’ll have two Big  Fat Checks to look forward to! Be sure to take a look at their Organic Cotton  separates for men and women that’ll come in handy for yoga, summertime hikes  through Yosemite, or even just a walk around the block.

And  that fancy coffee I mentioned earlier? Start at Ebates (to get your Cash Back!)  and check out the shipping special for MotherNature.com. They’ve got several varieties  of fair trade, organic whole bean coffees by Green Mountain that are delicious!  Their Breakfast Blend has been getting great online reviews and would be  perfect for your first cup of the morning. Pick up some of their green-friendly  Divine Dark or Milk Chocolate as well and enjoy free shipping on the whole  order!

        June 26, 2006

Independence Day. It’s a day when we, as Americans, can appreciate all our forefathers gave in the name of freedom and liberty. A day when we can hold our heads high, and take pride in what our nation stands for.

Let’s be honest- it’s also a day when we barbeque, shoot bottlerockets and drink pitchers of Sangria!

If you’re in the midst of planning a July 4th party like I am, don’t break the bank on planning the perfect Stars and Stripes bash. Granted, it’s already the 29th, but if you start ordering your party supplies now, you’ll be all ready for Tuesday afternoon!    Now,  some of us have already sent out the invitations, made the phone calls, but did  you first take a look at your grill? Maybe it’s a little rusty, or just plain old. Think of how impressed your pals will be if you have a shiny new grill on  which to roast those yummy, dripping ribs! Head on over to Ebates and then to  Kitchenetc.com for a great collection of grills and grill accessories in all  shapes and sizes- buy one that’s over $69 and it’s shipped for free!

How about Target.com? Good ol'  Target has totally revamped its image in the past few years. It's become a downright classy joint, but their prices are still fair! Right now they're doing Free Shipping on over 10,000 items in the store! Here, you should buy BIG-  we all know it's the big things that add up fast in shipping charges. They've got free shipping on some great-looking barstools that would be perfect out on the patio or even for an indoor Independence Day soiree. Ebates will hook you up with 4% Cash Back on your Target purchases, which should make you feel a little more festive!

If you want your barbecue to be really swank, why not Hail a Cab? Not the checkered kind! MyWinesDirect.com is doing Free Shipping on these great collections of wine- you get six bottles at a time (which, if your friends are like mine, you’ll finish long before the burgers have browned!). My favorite is the collection of Cabernet Sauvignons that’ll pair deliciously with ribs, chicken, steaks- really, any kind of meat you’ve tossed on the grill! And guess what? Ebates is giving 12% Cash Back! That’s certainly a reason to raise your glass.
