Weekend Idea: Treat Yourself to Something Warm

So here it is, the weekend after Christmas, and hopefully you all got exactly what you were hoping for this holiday season. However, if you're like most of us these days, your wish list far outweighs the gift giving potential of your friends, family, cronies, well-wishers, neighbors, or even co-workers. It does seem, however, that a number of those folks who end up giving gifts to me, at least, end up giving either cash or a gift card if they don't know what to buy. That is, in part at least, why the day after Christmas is such a busy shopping day.

So this year, put those gift cards and cash to good use this year, and treat yourself to something that will help you through the Winter: a new overcoat. It seems that these days people have overlooked the classic trench coat which had been a staple for all inclement weather during the first half of the twentieth century. I know that they got a bad wrap from all the rebels who wore them in the late nineties as an expression of their disillusionment with their suburban upbringings, but I for one have not let the look go softly into that good night. When all my friends grab their pea coats, mechanics jackets, hoodies, or fleece coats, I stand proud in my old black overcoat that has weathered Winter after Winter. Being the equal-opportunity blogger that I am, I have suggestions for him and for her.

womens raincoat.jpgFirst, for the ladies, this Soia & Kyo Double Breasted Raincoat combines the classic trench coat look with some modern flair. Available in charcoal grey or black, the belted raincoat keeps you warm, dry, and in style. While I've never been a fan of the belted raincoat for men, I find that on a women's coat, a belt helps cut a much more feminine silhouette. The flare at the bottom is what really keeps this coat from looking like you borrowed it from your boyfriend or husband, though on the grey coat, the black piping at the sleeves and shoulders also adds a bit more feminine embellishment. Best of all, this coat is currently 40% off the retail price, now just a low $146.90, plus the 6% cash back at Nordstrom, which is the special Holiday Double Cash Back promotion, so it won't be lasting much longer, so act fast!

mens raincoat.jpgNow, for the gents I recommend this Boss Black 'Rotan' Three Quarter Length Coat. I'd imagine that most of you have heard somewhere or another that the emergence of the TV show "Mad Men" has led to a resurgence of classic style, and this coat could pretty much be the embodiment of that trend. The rich houndstooth plaid screams "film noir" while the double breasted cut and the button-tab cuffs make this jacket something you could easily wear over a suit if you chose to. Granted, the model kind of has that "just got kicked out of an East Coast Prep School" kind of look, but if worn open this jacket would look completely natural when worn with jeans and a button-down shirt. I won't lie, this look doesn't come cheap, but you are saving 40% off of the retail price. Still, to get this fine winter coat wrapped around yourself this year it will set you back about $475, but just think about the kind of cash back you'll earn at 6% (I was a literature major, I'll let you do the math).

If these don't strike your fancy, or you just want a pea coat, which is still all the rage again this year, make sure you swing by Ebates before New Year's Day, which is when our Double Cash Back at the nineteen merchants goes the way of 2008 and 2009 ushers back the return of the Daily Double!
