Saving $$$ During Singles Week

National_singles_week One of the many things I find amusing about our culture is the dedication of entire weeks for random causes. We've all heard of National Secretary Week, National Small Business Week, or my favorite, National Singles Week. It's as if some married CEO thought of a list of things he or she wouldn't want to be and dedicated one week to each of them. While I'm all for praising people, a string of questions come to mind: are these special weeks meant to raise awareness, or are they meant to be some form of pity? If they are meant to raise awareness, isn't that then just a form of pity? As if to say "Hey secretary, you'll never be CEO, so here's a week for you", or "Hey unmarried person, feeling lonely? We gave you a week!" The whole thing just seems rather odd, but like I said, amusing in a cynical way.

Being that this week is National Singles Week, and I am one of the estimated 82 million singles (oh my!), I thought "What better way to celebrate, than with the joy of buying nice things for myself?" After all, isn't the best part of being single the ability to be totally selfish? What better way is there to show your self-love than with buying a nice piece of jewelry?

Diamond So, after looking to the skies for a fairy tale and realizing Prince Charming must have missed his flight, I created my own "happily ever after" and purchased this diamond ring from where else? Diamond.com. Not only do they list fine jewelry at up to 50% off when compared to the big retailers, but they also offer monthly payments. Remember, being single should not equal being broke. I love how this ring is delicate and rich looking, but has the flair associated with costume jewelry. It's one part fine, one part flair, all parts me. Nothing can describe the joy from waving my right hand and seeing the stares of envy and confusion. With the 2% Cash Back, I treated myself to a fancy manicure, too.

Hey, beautiful jewelry calls for beautiful hands.
